The institute gained deemed status during the 2003-2004 academic year and was renamed SRM Institute of Science and Technology.

It became SRM University in 2006 following permission by the UGC for ‘Deemed to be Universities’ to be called ‘Universities’.

In 2017 it was renamed back as SRM Institute of Science and Technology following the UGC request to drop “University” from the name.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology approved by the University Grants Commission and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

It has been given an overall A++ Grade by NAAC. Some programs in SRM Institute of Science and Technology are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

SRM University Chennai Campus

The SRM University Chennai stands for Sri Ramaswami Memorial University is a deemed university privately owned in the state of Tamilnadu.

At first it was started as an engineering college in Kattankulathur, under University of Madras in the year 1985 which had around 7 campuses.

The 4 campuses in Tamilnadu are Kattankulathur, Vadapalani, Ramapuram, Tiruchchirappalli and the other are in Sonepat, Gangtok & NCR. In the year 2003/2004 the college was renamed as SRM Institute of Science and Technology.

Later in 2006 it became SRM University and became full-fledged university under section 3 of UGC Act 1956. This university is accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) along with this it is approved by University Grants Commission.

The Kattankulathur Campus campus is located around 35km from Chennai city and has a campus situated on 313-acre area beside the Grand Southern Trunk Road, NH 45. This campus consists of College of Engineering and Technology, College of Science and Humanities, School of Management & College of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Vadapalani Campus is suited in Chennai city center and houses for Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of MCA, & the Sivaji Ganesan Film Institute.

It is having over 90% placement record. Its really good in that field. It prepared its students for it. And also there are mass recruiters as well as core companies coming to pay you enough. This year from our EEE branch the highest package paid was around 15 lakhs. So there is really good placement offered. In fact many companies like CTS, Infosys, TCS and also companies like VISA, mu sigma, and L&T came for giving jobs to students. They give a salary package of 3 lakh to 15lakh per annum .
